…Into the Light

Sasha Witteveen, Jorian van Nee & Jose David Ospina Gaviria

About the album

When it is dark, light must shine. Listening to this album will take you into the light, being guided by the human and versatile voices of our instruments. The inner strength of this CD is the progression from minor to major. With our instruments we speak about contrasts between loss and comfort, captivity and freedom, injustice and honesty, sarcasm and humor, drama, and love.

Composers

Double bass talent Sasha Witteveen (2003) has made an original and utterly convincing debut album. The title piece "Into the Light" is a sprawling journey from chaos to light by Dmitri Smirnov. The highlight is Xavier Dubois Foley's frenzied folk-virtuoso solo "The Falling Seagull", in which Witteveen's bass dances and sings.

Joep Stapel, NRC

Her playing is deeply personal, emotionally intense, technically brilliant. [...] The sound quality of this album is quintessentially TRPTK excellence—what we have come to look forward to with each new TRPTK release.

Rushton Paul, Positive Feedback

The Sonata is the first and most profound composition on the CD performed amazingly well, with great understanding and genuine lyricism. In all other works Sasha also has shown herself as a brilliant virtuoso and thoughtful musician.

Elena Firsova, composer

To my demanding ears, Sacha is one of those gifted women who qualify for classical solo pieces, playing with little or no vibrato in her musically driven performances. [...] Opulent perfectionism and well-judged glissandos define her virtuoso non-accompanied solo style in what I consider to be the best part of her debut SACD: ‘The Falling Seagull’.
