About the album

Master pianist Nicolas van Poucke, called “a true poetic musician” by the Volkskrant, returns to the Small Hall with an eclectic program; Sweelinck, Mozart, and Debussy. Van Poucke opens with Sweelinck’s melancholy Variations on Mein Junges Leben hat ein End and from Debussy you will hear the beautiful Reflets dans l’eau.

Both are typically not run-of-the-mill Mozart. But I think it was the dazzling and powerful rendition of the final movement that aroused the enthusiasm of a strikingly young audience. Van Poucke at its best. Wonderfully unconventional. The hallmark of a real artist.

Adrian Quanjer, HRAudio.net

The rendition of the piano is completely natural sounding like a real piano in your room with a sense of size that stereo can’t deliver. All of the natural reverb and reflections you would hear in the hall are presented in your space. [...] The performance by Mr. Van Poucke is wonderful and judging from the enthusiastic applause, the audience agrees.
